To put this into perspective, Bosch’s most affordable dishwashers, the Ascenta Series, produce around 50 dB, roughly equivalent to light traffic or a quiet conversation.

One step up from the Ascenta Series is the 100 Series, which emits between 48 and 50 dB, akin to the sound of rainfall.

The 300 and 500 Series both stand at about 44 dB, similar to the noise in a quiet office.

Difference 2: EasyGlide Rack System

Difference 4: 3rd Rack

Bosch offers three types of 3rd (top) racks: Standard, Flexible, and MyWay.

All Bosch 800 series dishwashers come with a Flexible third rack. But if you opt for the Bosch 800 Series Premium, you’ll find the MyWay rack in those two models.

As for the Benchmark series, it’s a mix. Two Benchmark Series dishwashers—the SHX88PZ65N and the SHP88PZ55N—feature the MyWay rack.

The remaining three Benchmark models—the SHX89PW75N, the SHV89PW73N, and the SHE89PW75N—come with the Flexible rack.

Difference 5: Water Softener

Bosch 800 series dishwashers, while offering a range of excellent features, do not include an interior light.

Difference 9: Crystal Dry Technology

Bosch offers two distinct drying systems across their range of dishwashers: PureDry and CrystalDry.

PureDry is designed to gently whisk moisture away from dishes as they cool. This closed system doesn’t pull in outside air or use a heating element, making it a safe option for drying your plastics.

CrystalDry takes a more high-tech approach. This patented technology uses natural minerals that collect moisture and convert it into heat, reaching up to 176°F. This heated air circulates the tub, drying dishes to an impeccable finish. It’s akin to a mini, controlled sauna for your dishes, even the plastics. According to Bosch, dishwashers with CrystalDry perform 60% better than models with PureDry.

Interestingly, all dishwashers in the 800 series come with the advanced CrystalDry system.

However, the story is a little different when you look at the Benchmark series. Despite being the higher-end series, only two models—SHX88PZ65N and SHP88PZ55N—boast the CrystalDry system. The remaining three models—SHX89PW75N, SHV89PW73N, SHE89PW75N—rely on the more basic PureDry system.

You would think all models in this higher-end range would feature the brand’s superior drying technology, but it’s not the case.

Both Bosch 800 and Benchmark series dishwashers are highly reliable. In my recent interviews with 15 appliance repair companies, Bosch emerged as the most recommended brand. Impressively, 11 of these 15 companies regarded Bosch as one of the most reliable dishwasher brands.

Additionally, Yale Appliance’s annual reliability report shows Bosch has one of the lowest service rates. That means you’re less likely to need repairs or face issues with your Bosch dishwasher.

Regardless of the series, you’re investing in a brand designed to last and unlikely to give you many problems. Whether you opt for the 800 or the Benchmark series, you can feel confident knowing you’re buying quality, long-lasting reliability.

Leak Prevention System (AquaStop)

Both 800 and Benchmark series dishwashers are equipped with Bosch’s advanced AquaStop leak protection system. This feature offers superior leak prevention, which ensures peace of mind when using your dishwasher.

What Appliance Experts Say

To get a broader perspective on Bosch 800 and Benchmark dishwashers, I spoke to the appliance expert at Wickford Appliance in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Wickford has been selling Bosch appliances for decades and knows them well.

He said, “The core operation, including the steel tub and PrecisionWash system of 800 and Benchmark dishwashers are the same, the warranty is the same, and they even look almost exactly the same. Benchmark models are slightly quieter and have smoother wheels on the racks, an interior light, and one extra wash cycle. But otherwise, there’s not much of a difference.”

As we talked, he mentioned an interesting and counterintuitive difference. He said, “CrystalDry, which is Bosch’s most advanced drying system, is available in all 800 series dishwashers but only in select Benchmark models. It’s surprising because Benchmark dishwashers are more expensive, yet some models have an inferior drying system. We talked to Bosch about this, and they didn’t have an explanation.”

When I asked if the Benchmark series dishwashers are worth the higher price, he said, “To be quite honest, we mostly sell 800 series dishwashers. When there were supply chain issues years ago, we only had Benchmark models in stock because they were so expensive. But when both are available, 800 is the better value and the one we recommend.”

Bottom Line: Should You Buy a Bosch 800 or Benchmark Series Dishwasher?
